Introduction
An introduction to this place is found at Main Page. This place was made by Sy.
The general disclaimer has licensing information. I'm pretty cool, and most stuff can be re-used elsewhere.
Sy's Mission Statement
This place exists mainly as a public outlet for my (Sy's) various projects and hobbies. It represents research done on various topics, and efforts towards personal writing.
It's online for three reasons.
- (1) Access
- I can have better access to my stuff if it's online.
- (2) Share
- I figure that there are a lot of other people who could benefit from my research and notes.
- (3) Collaborate
- If someone randomly drops by and fixes a link or some spelling, then wonderful. If someone drops by to collaborate on a topic they themselves are researching, then even better. Collaboration has been restricted for security reasons.
Ultimately, this entire wiki fits right into the whole general mishmash. It helps people because topics herein are easy to search for. When someone is doing broad searches out there on the internet, and they find this place, they are always one step closer to their search goal.
I've also taken some significant amount of time to create sections just for comedy. While that's not technically a hobby, archiving such stuff is, and you really can't go wrong making people laugh. Well you can, but let's not go there. ;)
In general, this place is one gigantic memory-aid. As Albert Einstein said, "Never memorize something that you can look up."
Why not edit the Wikipedia?
Obviously my personal opinions and private notes wouldn't fit there, so this place does have an obvious home.
But remember that this place originated from offline notes, and so that legacy has remained somewhat.
But even if I discard that legacy -- and in many cases I have and will instead be editing Wikipedia articles -- there is too much original research, opinion and such, and it ends up being easier to have additional Wikipedia-quality notes here alongside the not-Wikipedia-quality notes.
Plus, I like crazy things like pluralized article names. Oh, and I organize my notes properly. The Wikipedia has terrible structure.

About the URL
My name is not Jay, and i am only a minor hacker.
Yes, it is part in recognition of the age-old J. Random Hacker.
The jrandomhacker.info name is simply a catchy and interesting URL to have acquired.
About the logo
Barbed-wire-xd.png was my first Gimp-edited file. The idea just lept out at me when I first saw the picture.

On the net
Unfortunately, due to some shuffling around - changing addresses multiple times, and especially moving away from coWiki - I am almost entirely unknown again. It's kindof peaceful, really.
