Introduction
What's posted here is only a fraction of the misadventures I've had. When I was a child, I had heard about the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times." While this does not strictly apply to me, the idea of merely being lucky in that I experience events of both extremes, does.
I've had a lot of truly fucked up misadventures in my life. I'm going to try to document some of them.. not because I'm particularly proud, but I figure that if life continues to toy with me I may as well entertain others with the tales. I have a number of other stories I may end up putting up here, but that all will take some time.
In particular, I've had a lot of really strange experiences when upgrading my computer(s). An upgrade never seems to go as planned. There's always something stupid to follow up on. Either I never thought of it, or it's just some little bit of unplanned wackyness. Life is strange. For some reason I am drawn to complete and close a case before turning the system on, somehow feeling that there is an appropriate completeness that I feel is necessary. I still dislike testing in a piecemeal manner.

What, no misadventures in 2006?
ALL OF 2006 WAS A MISADVENTURE.

- When putting in my 1GB SD card into my multireader, I stuck it into the floppy drive instead.. even though I was being careful. Trying to take it out pushed it in further. I had to power down the system and take out the device to shake the damned thing out. Sigh. Of course I did a shutdown even though I was doing things which I shouldn't have shut down, like installing PCLinuxOS in a VMware session. Sigh.

- Today, years later, I realised that the scsi multireader I bought a long time ago probably worked after all.. I think I may have been putting the CDs in upside-down. I can't remember clearly.. but I don't know if I tried flipping the disks over. The multi-cd cases are clearly labelled and everything, but I don't remember looking at them before today. Sigh.

- Today I dropped by IKEA to pick up some missing parts for a piece of furnature I bought in Aug 2003. I even used their fancy bus from the subway. I never assembled this piece of furnature and in fact ended up dragging it through a few moves until the box it came in disintegrated. They could only give me _some_ of the parts, so this misadventure will continue. Now I've got to find a way to bundle the bunch of boards without them getting scratched up or otherwise damaged in my next move.

- I pulled out another albino nosehair out of my left nostril. =/
- My Creative MuVo2 died on the way to work. It just booted up in an "I suck ass" mode. It completely died before I got it home.. probably because of battery drain. I played around lots, but couldn't re-flash it or format it or anything. I ended up taking it apart.. fuck the warrenty.. and tried a 256MB sandisk compactflash (type 1). No go. Oh well.. another one bites the dust. The microdrive wouldn't work in my pc either, even after knocking it around a bit. I wonder if I should use the old "freezer trick" for it. God, I want to forget those old skills. Well, it's dead and now I want a mini-dvd mp3 player. =p

- Well it turns out the assholes at Optimart sold me the most piece of shit spare glasses. Not only could they be kids classes, as was pointed out at a recent eyedoctor's appointment, but today in class, the screw fell out of one of the rubber nosepieces, and right into my eye! It even stayed there all class without my realising it. What shoddy workmanship is this that it can't handle a month of wear?

- This evening the skin from the side of my finger peeled off. It was from a burn which I took to that area some weeks ago. The burn barely phased me even though it gave off a nice sizzling sound. It didn't leave a mark although the skin looked a bit "pruneish" for a day. Somehow it took that long for the skin to bother doing anything about it.

- I deleted my instiki installation, and ended up nuking a bunch of original material with it. Sigh.

- Life has sucked for some time now. I moved, then work moved, then I moved again. Having had no real brainspace for various reasons for the last half-year, mostly from re-rediscovering myself, nothing in life has made much sense. How the hell do other people cope with life? Television, smoking, drinking, wenching? Bah!

- I had some fancy downtime. I moved the setup to another box and it was working fine. I decided to move it to another room and it got itself a new internal IP, so the world didn't know how to connect to it. I only learned/remembered this a little while later of course. On top of that, when I move it to the other room it decided to begin powering off for no reason. In the middle of bootup or even in the middle of the CMOS setup screen. "Fuck!", shouts I, after incoherently bellowing my anger. I move the source of power this way and that, to no avail. I just moved the fucking box back where it began. I'll figure that nonsense out someyear later.
- After moving the box it died on me a bit later. I'm calling this a bad PSU and I ended up moving the system to a tertiary system. Sigh.
- It complained about the memory I used to have in it, so I downgraded it some more. If it wants to stay oldschool, then it can have its 96 megs of ram..
- I realised that I didn't plug in the CD-ROM, so I took it down to fiddle with it some more. I couldn't get it to use the fucking thing so I gave up. It used to work.. what happenned? Fucked if I care right now.

- Remote anything magically works. A while back I had figured out how to rotate the licensing so as to re-use my 'number of seats'. Their broken-assed default had the first user eat up a license which wouldn't be released automatically. Sigh.

- I've been cultivating my wierd sleep habits, when I wake and then go back to sleep again, and I've been having vivid 'death of a hero, rebirth of a hero' type dreams. They're quite moving, although a bit strange. Superheroes and supervillans mixed together in the same team playing hockey. Superman losing his love and falling into despair for generations, and yet fated to return again. Man, it's hard to write on because of the emotion of the experience, but I'll at least note this stuff here. These are one or two hour downtime dreams too.

- Somehow, I managed a complete sleep cycle in an hour and ten minutes. This was a nap in preparation for my Systema class that day.

- Woke up at 4am, shopped and cleaned house, realised the furnace died, was told a column of lights went out after I went to bed, got into an argument with renovators, went out for a drink, stayed up until 4pm on Sunday chatting with a friend.

- Glassy-slick ice covered with fresh powdery snow. That's what I slipped on. I was so rigid from a hellish day at work that I fell stiff as a board, on my right hip, sending a wave of force up my body and ringing my brain aginst the inside of my skull. The concussion wasn't bad, but it left me underpowered for over a week.
- Mon Feb 09

- I opened a rather heavy door today. It swung open with enough force to knock against the outer wall. I wasn't using any strength at all.. my arm was relaxed when I touched it, but I half realised that it was a heavy door and I extended myself and walked through the door while keeping my posture straight. I'm going to be keeping this in mind for some time.. it's as if I was throwing force from my entire posture. This inspired Relaxation, movement, form and power.

- All this week, people have been smiling at me, commenting to me or otherwise stopping me to ask if they knew me. One kid wondered if I was a teacher from somewhere or other, and someone's dog came up to me like I was a long time friend. The owner was amused, apparently this was rare. I was in a pretty shitty mood, and the worse that got the more close people came to me. Event after event.. Frightening.

- Today I was in a bit of a spaced-out mood. Brushing my teeth after a snack at work, I realised how very comfortable I was feeling. "Gee", I thought to myself, "these boxers sure are comfortable..". Pausing and patting my pants, I realised that I left my keys and wallet /at home/. Hah!

- I have blood on my palm and blood on a finger. I look everywhere and cannot find a wound. There is blood on the inside of the tomato bag I was just in. Uh.. no wait, there it is. Annoying.

- While hacking around on the piano, I polished up another major section of Fur Elise, and broke the tip of a nail off in two places doing it. I only realised this after I was winding down in my practice. I love applying that 'zen' mindset to various different things.. losing myself.
- I walked to work. Work was closed. Nobody bothered to come on time to open the place up. I walked over to check out Fight Club (a Systema studio). It was closed. I walked home. I left my house at 7:30a and got back at 10a. Fun, I had me a good old fashioned mini-walkabout.

- After posting a request for 'occult' information on an out-of-the way forum (Systema), I was given a "so close to the source and you are asking us?" Hmm..
- I would later learn through training and thinking that yes I am usually on the right track, sortof, kindof almost maybe. It's a self-discovery thing.

- Merrily walking along, down the street to a friend's house. I hop up on a "log" to walk around some people walking the other way. The wood wiggles under me, but I don't lose a step.. my strides even and confident. Just then I pass by two young girls. One turns to the other and says "Whoa, I didn't know adults could walk like that. Wow!" I grin the biggest damned grin in a long while. =)

- For magical reasons, my firewall was blocking everyone from getting by. I've no idea. I played with things.. unset and reset settings and then rebooted it. Things began to work again. Sigh..

- Today I performed my first flawless system swap. Well.. I had to flip both ends of a floppy cable, and sound doesn't work.. but whatever. Everything else worked in one fucking try. Yay me!
- Ok, I would later have to shut things down, remove the motherboard just to knock out a hole for the onboard networking.. but what the hey.. that worked on the first try, after I reconfigged the system. =)
