[edit] Software Updating Tools and Package Managers
some nice links are here: http://tukaani.org/links
For keeping up-to-date:
- getpkg
- SWARET is a tool designed to be used with either Slackware or distributions dirived from SLackware. It allows an administrator to install, upgrade, or remove packages. It detects library dependencies, and presents the end user the option to install packages that will resolve those dependencies.
- slackerx -- slacker is a slackware pkgtool package management assistant. It was primarily designed to allow you to automatically keep your system up to date by periodically checking the 'patches' directory on the slackware ftp site for your installed version.
- slapt-get is an APT like system for Slackware package management. It allows one to search slackware mirrors and third party sources for packages, compare them with installed packages, install new packages, or upgrade all installed packages. Great for scripting as well.
- See also gslapt their GTK app
- spkg -- a slackware package management utility. It can download/install/remove/upgrade packages, sync to the slackware-current tree, perform system upgrades and perform regular expression matching for package lists. spkg aims to be simple, powerful, ...
- beta..
- amypkg -- amypkg, a bash script to simplify package installation under slackware linux. features automatic dependency finding and installation ...
- beta
other/unsorted:
- slackupdate is a bash script that can be used to check for, download, and install Slackware updates. As of July 2007 it's out of date (Slackware 10.2)
- Slackpkg
- http://slaktool.sourceforge.net
- http://slackcurrent.sourceforge.net -- simple script to check for updated packages. Doesn't do anything with the list though, so you would wget and install the items manually.
- might be a good candidate for rewriting in a mini-project.
- http://yann.wanwanscappel.free.fr -- gnome-based. Seems abandoned.
- gnome-pkgtool -- Just a GUI
- http://deprecated.it/kslackcheck/index-en.html -- For checking for changelog updates.
