Template:Disclaimer

The specific license may vary from document to document, but unless otherwise noted in a page or its parent, all content is copyrighted under Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0.

Every term and condition of the License will be enforced to the maximum extend permitted by law. Redistributions of a work and/or derivative works of it must be available under exactly the same License and contain proper and prominent attribution to its authors by their names and/or to this website with functional internet links. All content displayed herein is believed to be in the public domain in that nothing is illegally or immorally used. If you own the copyright © to any content or know for certain that a piece of content is not in the public domain or otherwise should not be used, please contact administration, with appropriate proof, for prompt removal. If possible, it would be nice to make arrangements for lawful use, so contact information to that end would be helpful.

Editing Restrictions

Translations and contemporizations

If translating, contemporizing or transliterating another work, ensure that the original work is on-hand and available alongside, or at least as a complete document linked to by the work.

Adopting content

If borging, cacheing, mirroring or otherwise adopting content from elsewhere, please note that although there are some countries with insane laws, all copyright laws usually apply on the internet and in other media. One point of confusion is what is and isn't legal to do.

For example, for most authors all of their original web pages on the web are copyrighted © unless otherwise noted. Pages that do not have a copyright notice can still be protected under copyright laws, and almost always are. All media (including backgrounds, icons, etc.) are also copyrighted just like their parent documents. In order to use them you must have permission from the author.

Although there was a bit of tension over this1, links to pages are not copyrighted, so you may link to copyrighted pages, but you may not use them as though they were yours.

1. Deep linking was brought up in a court case I heard of.

The Cache topic has some notible discussion.

Impartial source information

It is acceptable to have media which is from an unknown source, but Template:Source unknown should be applied with {{source unknown}}:

The source of this item is not known or not confirmed. Please contact administration if you can help.

or in cases when the copyright © is not known, Template:Copyright unknown should be applied with {{copyright unknown}}:

The copyright © of this item is not known or not confirmed. Please contact administration if you can help.

Using both of these templates together would not be unusual.

The source for fun topics (e.g. jokes) are most frequently not known.

Furthermore

  • Bad spelling and grammar will be summarily refactored. Don't hold on too dearly to your work. Once its here, it's everyone's.
  • leetspeak and other bastardizations of clear communication will be summarily refactored or deleted.
  • Demanatory-language is unacceptible, unless directly called for. Try to warn readers beforehand please. This is the kind of shit that gets us in trouble, so don't be a jerk.
  • Adhere to content copyright ©, intellectual property or trademark ® rights.
  • No piracy, hacking, cracking, phreaking, warez, pyrotechnics or exploitive content.
  • No file hosting of ROMs or Operating System / Platform emulators of any kind.
  • No grossly offensive content - e.g. exploitation of children, bigotry, hatred, defamation, invasion of privacy, or excessive explitives.
  • No open nudity. Artistic nudity is always up for interpretation though. Try not to be too shocking.
  • No spam - including exposing readers to site-spamming, popups or unnecessary ads.
  • No linking to shit that could get us in trouble. If you have to pause to wonder if it's ok, it probably isn't. If it required a password or other permission to get there in the first place, it's not ok to link to it.

Local Restrictions

This place is restricted under Canadian law because it is on Canadian soil. The administration is restricted because of citizenship. Certain actions are disallowed. Go figure, but I don't have a clue what those restrictions really are. Local law wasn't touched on in school.. you'd think law, like learning to do your taxes, would have to be something forced on you like colouring in kindergarden.. but no.

I find that the restrictions placed on me by my host or ISP are simple enough to adhere to, and are probably covered under Canadian law as well. In general, I'll try not to be an asshole, as that seems to be the general Canadian Way.

Global Restrictions

I understand that you, my visitor, are probably still obligated by the laws of your own countries or citizenship(s). I have no way of accurately knowing the nationality of each viewer, and cannot reasonably understand every law on earth. Furthermore, data from these sites is probably piped across multiple connections before getting to each user, and those connections could be in varying countries. With all of this in mind, legality is a very fuzzy issue which I cannot wholly grasp.

If you are aware of my being a party in breaking one of your laws, please contact me and give fair warning so that corrections to any such misconduct may be made. Remember, I am not an asshole, and in fact I consider it quite a complement to be asked, for example, to place a legal disclaimer or copyright © notice on a page I cache. Furthermore, under the obligations of your native laws or other restrictive agents, you may be required to refrain from visiting parts of this site.

Visitors, and not the administration, are to be considered responsible for upholding their own laws. The administration cannot be realistically expected to custom-tailor access to this site, or to even provide warning messages for content deemed illegal in certain countries or parts of countries.

Of course, reasonable effort will be put forth to provide fair warning before allowing entrance to potentially questionable content, especially if such effort is needed for the hosting ISP or country.

Host Restrictions

Aside from having restrictions given by my country, the host I provide these websites through may also have their own interests. If my host is in another country, that country's restrictions are forced on the host, and end up being passed on to me.

Currently, these sites are hosted on an administrator-owned computer.

Use Of Content

A polite notice to those who would wish to use pieces of content here:

There may be documents which fall under other licenses. Cached content is an especially-unknown element. Please be aware that a page may not have a license displayed but may in fact still fall under control of a license.

Furthermore, unless otherwise lawfully specified on a page or one of its parents, author will be assumed to be website administration.

To use appropriate content under the attribution share-alike license, it would be nice if you were to notify the administration. Permission is not necessary, just a note. Heck, if all you do is cut-and-paste and link back to the source and mention the site and author then it's ok by me.
